It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of emeritus L&S Advisory Board member and friend, Judy Webb ʼ60. Judy was an elected Advisory Board member from 2016-2022, after which she was enthusiastically selected as an emeritus member. Her loyal service on the L&S board began long before that, however; she joined the L&S Executive Board in 2003, and in 2016 she worked closely with former executive dean Carla Hesse to create what is now the L&S Advisory Board. Judy served as co-chair alongside emeritus member Mark Robinson until 2019. We miss her deeply.
Judy graduated from L&S in 1960 with a B.A. in history and had a successful career as president of Lothrop Ventures Incorporated, a real estate development company she founded in the 1980s. Her devotion to Berkeley was felt far and wide across campus, through the many programs and units she supported as well as the numerous volunteer roles she held. She was a former Trustee of the UC Berkeley Foundation, serving as chair of their Programs Committee and member of their Executive Committee. She was also a member of the Library Board and the National Campaign Steering Committee, among several other campus affiliations. Judy’s philanthropic generosity ran deep; she was a Builder of Berkeley and a Benjamin Ide Wheeler Society member and established three faculty chairs and an undergraduate advising fund in L&S. She was passionate about the arts and botanical gardens, and was a member of BAMPFA and loyal supporter of the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and the National Tropical Botanical Garden. In addition to Berkeley, her extraordinary philanthropy was also directed to the Acacia Foundation, where she was a primary donor and trustee.
Judy’s exceptional generosity of spirit and myriad accomplishments embody the excellence of our vibrant community. She was adored by so many and will truly be missed on our campus. Judy is survived by her children Eliza, Scott and John.
