Maurice Obstfeld Has Been Elected as This Year's Distinguished Fellow by AEA

Join us in congratulating Maurice Obstfeld who has been recently elected as this year's Distinguished Fellow by the American Economic Association.

Maurice Obstfeld is a highly accomplished economist, currently serving as the Class of 1958 Professor of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley. He has also taught at other prestigious universities and served in various positions outside academia, including as a Member of President Obama's Council of Economic Advisers and as an Economic Counselor and Director of the Research Department at the International Monetary Fund. He is a Fellow of the Econometric Society and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and has received numerous honors for his contributions to international finance. His research focuses on a wide range of areas in international finance, including global external imbalances, macroeconomic performance in an open economy, financial crises, currency crises, currency arrangements, and the dynamics of open economies. He has authored well over one hundred journal articles and written or edited fifteen books, including classic textbooks for doctoral students and undergraduates. His service to the profession has been exceptional, and he has had a profound influence on generations of students and colleagues around the globe.
