L&S senior and recent alum named 2025-2027 Yenching Scholars

Masha Vtorushina, a graduating senior studying Chinese Language and Global Studies in the College of Letters & Science, and Justin Hurley, a 2021 Political Economy graduate, have been named 2025-2027 Yenching Scholars. As Yenching Scholars, these outstanding L&S community members will enroll in the interdisciplinary China Studies Master's program this September at Peking University in Beijing, China. Through coursework, independent research, and field studies, they will examine China’s past, present and future, with particular emphasis on China’s development and role in the world.

Masha Vtorushina (’25, Chinese Language and Global Studies) first started learning Mandarin in high school and had the opportunity to visit China, where she taught English at several schools, volunteered at a panda conservation site, and immersed herself in a new community.
