Julia Bryan-Wilson, Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art and Director of the UC Berkeley Arts Research Center has curated an official collateral exhibition for the upcoming Venice Biennale, entitled Louise Nevelson: Persistence. The Biennale is one of the most prestigious art exhibitions in the world; there are only 30 official collateral events, and to be chosen is a huge honor and career highlight. Julia's curated exhibition of Louise Nevelson will open on April 23, 2022, at the historic Procuratie Vecchi in Plaza San Marco and organized with The Louise Nevelson Foundation. The landmark exhibit features more than 60 works and marks the 60th anniversary of Nevelson’s appearance at the 1962 Biennale. The artist’s monumental painted sculptures will be shown alongside little-known examples of her important collages, reflecting her tireless experimentation with materiality, shape, and space, and her use of assemblage as a feminist and immigrant strategy.
