What attracted you to work in finance?

Finance is the field that involves the management of money and how an individual, company, or government agency acquires and spends money. This field includes activities like budgeting, forecasting and analyzing the complex financial data, which is what attracted me to work in the field. It allows me to use my analytical abilities and my attention to detail.

You hold several degrees and certifications, including in business administration and cost engineering. How have these qualifications shaped your career, and how do you actively apply the knowledge and skills from your studies to your current role?

I regularly draw on my educational background and previous work in the field. My degrees and qualifications are relevant to my current role and complement each other. Business administration and cost engineering qualifications provided me with a great understanding of how business works and some of the best approaches and techniques for analyzing the cost, budgeting and forecasting. My current role involves all these aspects, and it is satisfying to be able to apply the theory and knowledge I learned into practice.

What does a “day in the life” look like for you at work?

I start my day by checking the email inbox and answering questions and inquiries. Since my role includes many different activities, I create a list of tasks and priorities each day to perform. Most of my work is at the computer, though I have a weekly operational meeting, and calls with staff and faculty as needed to address their concerns.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy interacting with faculty members, staff, and lecturers. It gives me great satisfaction to answer their questions and sort out any inquiries or issues. Also, I enjoy the fact that my job is engaging and stimulating since it includes many different tasks, such as administering research funds for faculty, making sure the payments are made in a timely manner, budgeting and forecasting, and processing payments and analyzing costs, in addition to unique situations that may arise.

After more than two decades in the finance field, what motivates you to keep growing and evolving in your career?

I enjoy intellectual challenges, helping the university achieve its goals, and the prestige associated with the industry. I am excited to work for one of the most prestigious colleges in the country, as well as the fast-paced nature of finance.

What are you currently learning and/or would like to learn?

I would like to learn how to play the piano. The piano’s sound is so beautiful, unique and powerful. There are so many benefits from learning the piano as it improves your memory, attention, spatial skills, math skills, and even the ability to vocally convey emotion. I have been recommended a good teacher so I am planning to sign up for classes.

I think the stereotype of someone in finance is that they are very methodical and pragmatic, which am, though I also have a creative side to my personality.
