Biological Science Faculty Child Care Fund provides a salary supplement to assist early to mid-career faculty with reimbursement of eligible child care expenses. Funding will be available on a limited, award basis.
Eligibility:
- Candidates must be appointed as Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in the Departments of Integrative Biology, Molecular and Cell Biology, and/or Neuroscience at least 50% time.
- Care must be for legal dependent children under age 6 and meet the reimbursement requirements described below.
- Preference will be given to pre-tenure faculty with a total family household income of less than $175,000.
Eligible reimbursements:
In keeping with UC policy, reimbursements can only be made for care provided by a person or organization who can provide an SSN or ITIN. Receipts and proof of payment are required for processing. Examples of dependent care expenses eligible for reimbursement include:
- Fees for licensed child care facilities
- Before and after school care programs for dependents under age 6
- Amounts child care provider with a tax ID number or social security number (including babysitters or nursery school) provided in or outside of your home
- Nanny expenses attributed to dependent care
- Nursery school (preschool) fees
- Summer Day Camp
- Late pick-up fees

Awards:
Awards will be $5,000. Note: all reimbursements for dependent care are taxable income. Awards must be utilized in the fiscal year awarded. There is no carry forward.
Criteria:
Non-tenured faculty will receive priority consideration for awards. Awards amount will be based on estimated income to child care expense ratio and estimated total family income.
Calendar for Application:
New and continuing faculty must apply to this program. Awards are not automatically renewed. Applications for the fiscal year (July 1 – June 30) must be submitted annually.
