L&S Alumni in Action During the Olympics

July 26, 2021

Out of 16 Golden Bears in action as the Tokyo Olympics get underway, a dozen have attended UC Berkeley's College of Letters & Science. We are proud to have athletes who majored in the broad range of subjects offered at L&S, from sociology to American Studies to molecular and cell biology. These athletes are representing several different countries and we wish them the best of luck in the coming games. Follow CalBears.com for daily coverage of the Olympics and read on for more detail.

16 Golden Bears across seven sports were in action the past 24 hours in Tokyo with four securing spots in the finals over the next few days. Ryan Murphy is one of three as he placed first in his 100m backstroke semifinals with a time of 52.24. He currently holds the world and Olympic record with a 51.85 mark set in August of 2016 in Rio.

The seven sports in competition were: women's rowing, rugby, softball, men's swimming, women's swimming, women's table tennis and women's water polo.
