Mark T. D'Esposito, a distinguished professor in the Department of Psychology, was recently elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. D'Esposito studies the neural bases of high-level cognitive processes such as working memory and executive control, as well as the effects of normal aging on prefrontal function. His research uses a variety of different experimental approaches, including functional MRI (fMRI), pharmacological studies and behavioral studies.
