On November 6th, UC Berkeley celebrated the grand opening of the Roger Herst Quantum Nexus, a new downtown hub designed to accelerate collaboration, innovation, and workforce development across California’s expanding quantum ecosystem. The opening reception and ribbon-cutting marked the start of a two-day gathering centered around the state-led California Quantum Convening, hosted by the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) at UC Berkeley the following day.
The Nexus opening brought together faculty and researchers from across UC Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, along with leaders from quantum industry, venture capital, national laboratories, consulates, state representatives, and colleagues from partnering universities including Stanford, Caltech, UCLA, and UC Santa Barbara. The evening also recognized Roger Herst, whose gift helped make the Nexus possible, and acknowledged the many lawmakers whose support, including the passage of AB 940, helped launch California’s coordinated efforts in quantum science and economic development.
