Jesús Arciniega

College Adviser

Joined the L&S Office of Undergraduate Advising in:
Summer 1999

What is your approach to advising?
Fair, thorough, honest and friendly. I truly enjoy what I do.

Education:
MS, Counseling, Cal State East Bay

BA, Political Science, University of California, Berkeley

How did you get here?
BART or bike. Depends on the day.

What's your favorite part of your job?
One-on-one appointments with students.

Most unusual job you ever had:
Fish market clerk.

What's the best class you've ever taken?
I've got two: Soc 1 with Professor Harry Edwards and Political Science 1, with Professor Sandy Muir. I took them here at Cal during my first quarter of my freshmen year. (Yes, we were still on the quarter system!) They were engaging and represented view points that were diametrically opposed to one another. I recall what was once said by a former Dean of the Harvard Business School – take Professors not classes.

About me:
Hobbies: Playing golf, reading (biographies, non-fiction, Christian Theology), running, biking (just back and forth from work), watching Seinfeld and Frazier re-runs with my wife.

What advice do you have for L&S students in general?
Pursue truth passionately and study what you truly love. At the same time, remember to couple your academic pursuits with internships. In terms of careers, they may be as important as your Berkeley degree.
