Joined the L&S Office of Undergraduate Advising in:
BA in Sociology, University of California, Santa Cruz.
What is your approach to advising?
Listen first and ask questions. I want to provide a safe space for each student, hear their needs, and give them best information that fits their situation.
What's your favorite part of your job?
Meeting new people everyday! I love being able to use my knowledge and experience to help others. I felt very lost as a student, and struggled to find the answers on my own, but I am always willing and excited to teach people what I have learned!
What's the best class you've ever taken?
"Body And Society." The course critically examined the place of the human body in contemporary society. Focusing on the social and cultural construction of bodies, including how they are gendered, racialized, sexualized, politicized, represented, colonized, contained, controlled, and inscribed. Discussed relationship between embodiment, lived experiences, and social action. Focuses on body politics in Western society and culture, especially the United States.
Bay Area Native. I grew up in Concord, CA, and have worked all over the East Bay. I moved to Santa Cruz to complete my bachelors but recently came back to Oakland. Very excited to be here again!
What advice do you have for L&S students in general?
Remember to breathe! You have plenty of time. Talk with your advisers, teachers, peers, everyone! Keep an eye on those deadlines and ask for help if you are every unsure, we are here to help!
