Declaring a Major in Environmental Sciences
Students should declare the major at the beginning of the junior year, or sooner, if possible. Environmental Sciences 10 and approximately half of the lower division science prerequisites should be completed before declaration. A minimum 2.0 gpa (overall, and in all courses taken towards the major) is required.
Everyone must enroll in the methods course, Environmental Sciences 100, during the spring of their junior year. Only declared majors will be allowed to enroll in this course which is a prerequisite to the year long Senior Research Seminar. It is advised that students complete the statistics requirement before enrolling in ES 100.
Junior transfer students should see the Student Affairs Officer as soon as possible upon arrival to verify which courses taken elsewhere will satisfy EnvSci requirements at Berkeley.
