Remember that you must initiate the graduation process, either by indicating your desire to graduate when you register with TeleBEARS for your final semester, or by adding yourself to the A.B. degree list in 120 Sproul Hall during the first five weeks of your graduation semester. (A late fee is assessed after the third week.) The list of prospective graduates is sent to advisors in L&S and the major department who will then indicate that you are or are not eligible to graduate. When you place yourself on the list of prospective graduates, you tell the computer not to generate any registration materials for the following semester, so don't do it until you are ready to leave for good!
Check with Info Bears (642-9400) around the eighth week of classes to be sure that you are on the degree list. If you are on the list, and if you satisfy all University, L&S, and major requirements by the end of the semester, you should appear on the official degree roster for that semester, usually issued 16-20 weeks after the end of the semester. Diplomas are available at 120 Sproul Hall 4 months after the end of your graduation semester; a "certificate of completion" is available from 120 Sproul earlier if you need it.
TIP: Remember that if, for any reason, you do not graduate in the semester that you intended (due to a failed course, I grade, unit deficit, etc.), you must place yourself on the graduation list again in the semester that the deficit is corrected. You are not automatically processed for graduation when you make up an incomplete.
Ceremonies: Although you may finish and receive your A.B. degree in Fall, Summer, or Spring, we have commencement exercises only in the Spring. Fall and Summer graduates are invited to attend then. We will send commencement information to all currently registered seniors in late March or early April. Non-registered students who wish to participate should contact the Student Affairs Officer by mid-March.
See the UGIS Commencement web site for information about the upcoming Spring ceremony.
