Media Studies applications will be accepted for Fall 2009August 17-21 (the adjustment period), and the first full week of each month:
Application qualifications/eligibilityIn order to declare the Media Studies major, you must have completed three of the four major prerequisites, and be enrolled in the fourth for a letter grade. Media Studies/Media Studies 10 must be one of the three completed courses. You cannot have completed more than 70 semester units (excluding AP) of college course work at the time of application to the major. You must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 in courses applicable to the major. This includes lower division prerequisite and methods courses, upper division electives and the equivalency of transferred course work. If you have not fulfilled the requirements as described in the first paragraph, you are ineligible to apply at this time. If you are eligible to apply but do not meet the unit or GPA requirements as described above, then you will need to submit supplementary materials in the form of an appeal as part of your declaration. If you have completed more than 70 units, or have less than a 3.2 GPA in Media Studies courses, you will need to submit a cover letter and a graded paper from one of the prerequisite courses. Appeal applications are reviewed twice per semester by the faculty. Admission decisions are final. Additional details are explained in the application packet available outside the Media Studies office and on the main bulletin board facing the third floor elevators in Campbell Hall.
