World Civilization Courses FALL 2009

World Civilization Upper Division Areas of Concentration Honors Program

You must have completed or be enrolled in the course(s) needed to complete the World Civilization requirement at the time of application to the major. You will be admitted into the major only after completion of at least one of the two world civilization prerequisites. Proof of completion (transcript) must be received by the department before students may be officially declared.

SUBSTITUTIONS for the world civilization requirement: With consent of adviser, you may substitute an appropriate course not on this list. The substitute course must be comparable to one of the courses listed above and/or be particularly suited to the student's area of research. Above all, the proposed courses should reflect the intention of the requirement: 1) that students have an opportunity to acquire a broad background regarding the foundations of societies and cultures; and 2) that they have the opportunity to develop the historico-geographical awareness that adds substance to the study of the social sciences or humanities.
