How to Declare

Students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 before declaring any major in the College of Letters and Science and are required to declare when 60 units have been completed. Registration for classes (Tele-BEARS) will be blocked by the College if a major has not been declared by the completion of 70 units.

In order to be considered for admission to the Interdisciplinary Studies Field Major, you must consult a faculty adviser and complete an application form, available below for download and in printed form outside of 301 Campbell. As part of the application, you must prepare a statement describing your proposed Area of Concentration and a tentative list of required courses that support the idea. You must have completed one of the world civilization requirements or be enrolled in the course needed to complete the requirement at the time of application.

There is no application deadline. Applications may be submitted to a faculty adviser at any time. It is required that the applicant discuss the application with one of the faculty advisers. However, it is recommended that you declare the major as soon as possible after completing 60 units and certainly before 90 units are completed. Call 642-0108 to ascertain faculty advisers' drop-in advising hours (also posted on the ISF bulletin board outside of 301 Campbell Hall).
