Undergraduate Major in Cognitive Science

Student enroll in a set of core cognitive science courses in which all cognitive science majors must complete. These include the lower division requirements as well as Cognitive Science 100 and 101. Students also take a course in each of the five departments which compose Cognitive Science, choosing one of these in which to focus and take additional coursework.

Cognitive Science 1 is the introductory course, built around a number of questions such as: What's the difference between the "mind" and the "brain"? How can the mind be studied systematically? What is known innately and what is learned? Is it possible for machines to think, learn, or reason?

The upper division core courses, Cognitive Science 100 and 101, present a more specific inquiry into the above topics, exploring the interaction between language and thought, different knowledge representations, and the emergence of cognitive abilities.
