Multidisciplinary American Studies
at UC Berkeley

The interdisciplinary American Studies undergraduate major at the University of California, Berkeley seeks to take advantage of the depth and breadth of Americanist scholarship and research on the campus by defining our program to include the social sciences, material culture, the built environment, law, business, etc. along with the traditional American Studies mix of history and literature. At the same time, we help students build focused, individualized programs that draw on more than 400 Americanist course offerings at UCB per year. Over 60 faculty from departments and colleges across the campus are affiliated with American Studies.

Prospective majors are urged to read the Student Handbook, available from the documents page, for complete information about the program's requirements. UC-Berkeley does not offer a graduate degree program in American Studies. Information about graduate programs in other UC-Berkeley departments can be found through the UCB Graduate Admissions Office website.

Join us June 19-21 for a conference of the

International Consortium

being held at the Bancroft Hotel.
