College Launches illuminations Online MagazineBy Ralph Hexter, L&S Executive Dean and Dean of Arts & Humanities March 1, 2005 The College is pleased to announce the inaugural issue of a new online publication: illuminations. Every month, illuminations (http://illuminations.berkeley.edu) will spotlight different current research being undertaken in the arts and humanities by faculty and students in the College of Letters and Science and elsewhere on the Berkeley campus. The productive artists and humanities-discipline scholars at Berkeley utilize studios and libraries as their research laboratories, doing influential work that often revises accepted wisdom on human affairs. illuminations features the research of an individual or group at Berkeley, elucidating their original interpretation of a text or other cultural phenomenon, or their creation of a new artistic work. illuminations also brings to light significant past scholars and their achievements as part of the Berkeley arts and humanities legacy. Whatever your educational background and professional field, from art practice to zoology, you will be intrigued and enlightened by this in-depth view of the cutting-edge scholarship in the arts and humanities happening at Berkeley.
