College Launches Online Science Magazine: ScienceMatters@BerkeleyBy College Relations Office, July 21, 2004 The College of Letters & Science is launching a monthly online research digest—ScienceMatters@Berkeley—to highlight the groundbreaking research in the physical and biological sciences in the College of Letters & Science and College of Chemistry at UC Berkeley. The first issue includes articles on a wide-range of subjects, including: how a new research center will enable scientists to cook up state-of-the-art nanoscale materials, atom by atom, that will revolutionize science and industry; new research on "dark matter" that may aid our understanding of the evolution and destiny of the cosmos; and innovative work on the structure and reproductive mechanisms of the hepatitis virus that could lead to the development of new treatments for the disease. In addition, each month, ScienceMatters@Berkeley will feature a great moment of discovery in the history of science at UC Berkeley. The articles are researched and written by David Pescovitz, writer-in-residence for ScienceMatters@Berkeley. Pescovitz also writes for UC Berkeley's College of Engineering, and has had a long career writing about science and technology for publications including Wired, Scientific American, New Scientist, and the New York Times. ScienceMatters@Berkeley is online at http://sciencematters.berkeley.edu. To subscribe to the ScienceMatters@Berkeley e-mail digest-a summary of the articles in each issue-please contact the College Relations Office at ScienceMatters@LS.berkeley.edu. |
