Under the direction of the Director of Strategic Initiatives, the incumbent
is responsible for creating and implementing employee and management
communications with campus-wide impact by: conducting research and
interviews to gather information about HR policies, programs and practices;
writing articles, memos, guidelines, and announcements; editing materials
drafted by others; developing and maintaining web site content; and
coordinating the production and distribution of the department's
communications. This position may work in collaboration with other campus
communication positions to coordinate the publication of information.
Responsibilities:
--Write articles, announcements, memoranda, and other materials in a manner
appropriate to the goals of the communication and its target audience
--Edit documents drafted by others for clarity, consistency, and readability
--Check facts asserted in the department's communications before publication
--Draft orientation and training materials and responses to frequently
asked questions concerning HR programs, policies, and services
--Respond to inquiries from customers and members of the public
--Conduct interviews and research to gather information for communications
--Maintain the department's web site, assuring content is current,
consistent and concise
--Coordinate the work of graphics artists, web masters, and others as needed
--Maintain a professional presentation in all departmental communications
--Represent the Office of Human Resources (OHR) at campus meetings where
employee communications are planned and discussed
--Create and maintain publication schedules; meet publication deadlines set
by others
--Advise the Director of Strategic Initiatives on matters pertaining to
communications strategy, identifying communication modes appropriate to the
goals and target audience for the communication
--Evaluate and assess the effectiveness of communications; respond
effectively to customer feedback
--Maintain knowledge of activities and programs within OHR
--Maintain effective professional relationships with colleagues in OHR,
University Communications, and across the campus
--Adapt to changes in priorities and communicate those changes effectively
to colleagues
--Anticipate future communications needs, challenges and opportunities, and
collaborate effectively with colleagues to achieve communications goals
--Consistently demonstrate excellent written and oral communications skills
--Exercise good judgment in determining what, when, and with whom to
communicate
--Consistently demonstrate ability to work effectively with people of
diverse cultures
--Maintain a thorough understanding of the goals of the university and ways
in which this position can support those goals
Requirements & Qualifications:
--Excellent written and oral communication

--Effective project management skills including the ability to:
----Set project objectives, determine and address potential barriers;

--Strong interpersonal relationship skills both in one-on-one and group

--Professional presence in hosting meetings and responding to inquiries
--Computer proficiency in Windows environment
--Experience with HTML and web software development tools
--Awareness of various communication modalities and their appropriate
use
--Knowledge of the latest trends and best practices in the communications
field
--Knowledge of marketing or branding in an organizational setting
--Experience in web design and content management
--Proven organizational development
--Working knowledge of strategic management planning methods.
--Knowledge of web site design and administration.
--Ability to vary in communication style from journalistic communications
to creative marketing
--Ability to understand, interpret, and write about complex organizational
information.
--Ability to exercise political astuteness to quickly assess organizational
situations and recommend effective solutions
--Ability to structure and prioritize work to achieve specific deliverables
in an environment characterized by tight deadlines and competing and
frequently changing priorities.
