Kathleen: Google cut off access to their public service search tool after an enterprising hacker discovered a way to use it to serve up phishing sites and other bad apples from a google.com URL. Details on the exploit are here: http://ericfarraro.com/?p=6

So far, I've not seen any word on when Google might reopen the site to creation of new accounts or logins from existing users.

This question is for any webmasters using Google's free search facility on your site. In recent weeks, the link to log in to one's account has been disabled, with a note saying  "This service is currently unavailable, please try again later." <https://services.google.com/publicservice/login>

It doesn't say that the service is being discontinued, but it's been several weeks.  The email address given in their FAQ for queries produces an auto-reply saying that they can't answer individual questions.

The search facility is working, and continuing to index my site.

Anyone have any insight on this?

Thanks,
Kathleen
