In order to be compliant with the new campus security policy (Minimum
Standards for Networked Devices,
http://security.berkeley.edu/MinStds/), starting February 1, 2005
CalMail will be requiring secure access for connections. This means
that all email clients must have the ability to connect securely to
CalMail using SSL/TLS.
We are informing you now in order to give ample time to upgrade email
clients. We will send out further reminders as the date draws near.
The versions of Eudora on the campus software site can utilize SSL.
You can find them at:
The guides that we currently have for the more popular clients will
help you to enable SSL. We will be updating these guides with any
further information as the date gets closer. These guides can be
found at:
http://calmail-help.berkeley.edu
The current campus web clients, BearMail and CalMail, are compliant
with the policy and will not experience problems.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact consult@berkeley.edu
