Job Description:
The School of Public Health Office of External Relations and
Development comprises all activities related to public information,
fundraising, constituent relations, and governmental relations.
Reporting to the Director of Communications and Public Relations, the
Web Project Coordinator has primary responsibility for coordinating
the technical aspects of all External Relations web projects,
including the School of Public Health's web site.
Responsibilities:
Web Design and Production (70%)

Using a variety of software packages, develop creative original
graphic designs for web pages, including story boards, page layouts,
color schemes, typography, icons, buttons and illustrations. Drawing
on a knowledge of Web usability, design effective and engaging user
interfaces for Web sites. Provide additional Web-related technical
services as needed, including: CGI, PERL, JavaScript, Filemaker,
Flash, and Quicktime. Work within a variety of environments,
including but not limited to UNIX, Mac OS, and Windows NT.

Code files to comply with current World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)
recommendations and with ADA guidelines for disability access.

Content Development (25%)

Make regular, immediately viewable updates and additions to the
School of Public Health site. Troubleshoot web-related problems.
Identify and correct bugs in web pages and sites. Collect updated
information from internal sources such as faculty, division managers,
and student affairs officers as directed by the Director of
Communications and Public Relations

Misc. (5%)
Keep abreast of emerging Web-based technologies and make
recommendations based on current knowledge. As required, serve on
campus committees pertaining to web communication, development, and
policies.

Other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications:
Qualifications:

Professional experience managing and producing a web site.
Comprehensive and up-to-date technical knowledge and skills,, and
expert knowledge of web standards, web site architecture, and web
design principles. Familiarity with issues such as browser/platform
differences and incompatibilities.

Expertise with Dreamweaver, Flash, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Expert
knowledge of HTML and at least one of the following: XML, DHTML,
XHTML, CSS. Ability to create and edit HTML documents, image maps,
format text using HTML tags and style sheets, insert/modify all
supported object types within the Dreamweaver environment.

Must be able to effectively manage technical project timelines,
goals, etc. Ability to work under tight deadlines. Excellent
interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability
to work on several tasks simultaneously. Ability to work successfully
in a team environment.

Familiarity with the UC Berkeley School of Public health and/or other
health and university organizations desirable.
Other:
Position Controls

Reports to the Director of Communications and Public Relations. Must
be able to work independently and exercise judgment on a daily basis
with minimal supervision. The position requires long-term planning,
as well as short-term time management skills to ensure that the
various components of projects undertaken come together in a timely
and productive way. Work is reviewed in terms of meeting goals and
objectives of the position.

This is a 50% position totaling 20 hours per week.
