My turn...
Recreational Sports Web Staffing
Myself (Web Developer), with one part-time (10hrs/wk) student, to handle 3
public sites (soon to merge to 1), 1 internal site, approx 1500 pages. I'm
one of 6+ IT people but the only one for web development (hardware and
software). One of my co-workers handles network issues and traffic to the
web servers.
I give my student the day-to-day content updates, and the grunt work on key
projects but I handle the rest: building/securing/maintaining servers,
database design/development/deployment, graphic design, navigation,
architecture, information design, usability, light editing and writing, web
direction, logfile analysis, and soon, e-commerce and content management
system development.
My student reports directly to me, and I report to the Director of IT. I'm
fairly independent and get assigned projects from the Department Director
and Marketing. I also handle graphic design, database design, and DBA tasks
not associated with the web.
The environment is ASP/MySQL, and I'm able to manage so far with
server-side includes, CSS, a standard template, and the dream of shoving it
all into the database for the unit heads to update directly.
