UC is experiencing a dispute with Sybase Inc. about compliance under
the existing UC agreement with that company. Sybase appears to
believe that UC campuses are not using Sybase products in accordance
with the licensing terms.
As a result, there is going to be a UC-wide survey of Sybase product
usage. To prepare for this, I need to know which Berkeley Campus
departments are using any Sybase products, and I need contact
information for the person who will provide each department's Sybase
usage information once UCOP has finalized the data items that need to
be collected.
I am using the word "department" here in a loose sense. If Sybase
usage information is not available at a "department" level, I will
still need to be in contact with any sub-units or even individuals
who are using Sybase products, in order to ensure that we can account
for all Sybase usage at UC Berkeley.
Note that I will need to collect information about usage of all
Sybase products, not just the Sybase DBMS.
At this stage, if you are using any Sybase products, this is what I
need to know:
* Email confirmation that you are using at least one Sybase
product, along with:
* Contact Name
* Department or unit name (spelled out)
* Name of the larger organization into which your department or
unit fits--department, college, school, etc. (spelled out)
* Email address
Please send your responses to me at callaway@socrates.berkeley.edu.
Thanks.
