ETS is sponsoring a number of events in August and September to help
you learn about building course web sites:

Course Website Tools Orientation
---------------------------------
Want to learn about the 2 major course website building
systems--CourseWeb and Blackboard--the UC Berkeley campus is
currently supporting? Come to any of three presentations sponsored by
ETS (Educational Technology Services) during which we'll demonstrate
these tools, cover the administrative and pedagogical reasons for
using each, and answer the questions you have about when you might
want to use these or other tools.

Sessions will be held in 33 Dwinelle Hall from noon to 1 pm on:
        Monday August 11
        Wednesday August 13
        Tuesday August 19

An additional session will be held in 231 Wheeler Hall from noon to 1pm on:
        Monday September 8

No registration required.

What's new with Courseweb?
-------------------------
Based on user feedback, the CourseWeb project team has updated and
improved the system that creates a basic website for all UC Berkeley
courses. Whether or not you have already made changes to your
CourseWeb site, ETS invites you to come to one of these short
sessions to get a general overview and learn about the new syllabus,
office hours, and roster features that will be released for the Fall
2003 semester!

Sessions will be held in 231 Wheeler Hall from noon to 1 pm on:
        Tuesday August 12
        Monday August 18
        Wednesday September 10

No registration required.

(Note: If you have never been introduced to Courseweb, you'll get a
good overview by attending one of the Course Website Tools
Orientations.)

Getting Started with Blackboard
-------------------------------

Hands-on workshop, designed to help you get started building your own
course web site. Topics covered include navigating in Blackboard,
adding basic course information, posting announcements, uploading
documents, adding course images, and communicating with students.

Register for either of these two sessions:
        Friday August 15, 10:30 a.m. to noon
        Wednesday August 20, 10:30 a.m. to noon

Registration required: go to http://ets.berkeley.edu/training/
(Please register at least one week before the session you wish to
attend; if there are an insufficient number registered, the workshop
will be cancelled.)

(Can't make either of the above August dates? Don't worry. An
additional Blackboard workshop will be held in mid-September, but we
haven't found a location yet.)

Scanning Photos and Slides
-------------------------------
You'll learn what settings will provide the best quality image for
your intended use (website, projection, print or some combination),
and what format is best for saving scanned images. Then you'll get a
chance to scan your own images. (Bring your print images or slides!)

One session:
Monday, August 18, 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Registration required: go to http://ets.berkeley.edu/training/
(Please register at least one week before the session you wish to
attend; if there are an insufficient number registered, the workshop
will be cancelled.)

Course Website Open Lab
------------------------
If you feel like you want knowledgeable staff around to answer
questions as you work on your course web site (Blackboard or
CourseWeb), come to one of these self-directed labs. ETS staff will
be available to walk you through anything you want help with,
including scanning and video capture.

Sessions will be held on:
Friday, August 15, 1 - 3 p.m.
Thursday, August 21, 10 a.m. - noon

Registration highly recommended (so we make sure enough staff are
available): go to http://ets.berkeley.edu/training/

(Can't make either of the above August dates? Don't worry. An
additional open lab will be held in mid-September, but we haven't
found a location yet.)
