Hi folks,
Yes, yet another meeting on Tuesday Sept. 11 - only this one's about
site structure and navigation, and it's 9-10 am instead of the noon
hour. If the topic moves you (see below), or you're in the neighborhood,
stop on by.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS:
Next month, on Tues. Oct. 23, will be another introduction to databases,
this time by Kurt True, programmer at the School of Public Health's
Dean's office. He'll be covering the basics of database systems using
freeware: Perl scripting, mySQL database connectivity (right?), Linux
operating system, Apache Web server software. It'll be at the usual 9-10
am time slot, at the usual place in 3105 Tolman, so I hope more of the
regulars can make this session.
SEPT. 11 MEETING:
WHAT: Limited Resources SIG meeting
WHEN: Tues. Sept 11, 9-10 am
WHERE: 3105 Tolman (Beach Room in Psych)
WHO: campus Web managers
TOPIC: site structure and navigation, via discussion of two recent
redesigns
ABSTRACT: I'll be teaming with Jennifer Gwirtz, Philosophy Dept. Web
manager, to focus on site navigation, organization, and architecture.
Jennifer has an MFA in New Genres from the SF Art Institute, and I have
eleven years' experience as an editor, so we have right-brain/left-brain
approaches. Philosophy is a small site, while Psychology is a
medium-sized site. Yet we mostly agree on what constitutes "good
navigation." We'll be talking about navigation in the context of our
recent and/or in-progress redesigns:
Psych (mine - this is the redesign): http://psychology.berkeley.edu
Philosophy (Jen's - redesign freshly posted):
http://philosophy.berkeley.edu
Hope to see you there!
Pat
