The CalMessage was supposed to have gone out on January 6th to all
staff, but was unfortunately only sent out to Deans and Directors. The
message to all staff should go out this evening.

The staff at Business and Technology Services (fo Blu), bSpace and
BearFacts were kind enough to add information about the required ID
change to their login pages, so many staff are seeing the notice in
advance of the CalMessage. This is unfortunate and was not planned, but
should be rectified shortly. Also, staff have the entire month of
January to change their IDs (and will then receive reminders in February
before the change is required), so people should have plenty of time to
select their CalNet ID.

People should feel free to direct questions or concerns about creating a
new CalNet ID that are not answered in our Knowledge Base articles to
calnet-admin_at_lists.berkeley.edu.

Our communique suggests that people contact local IT staff if they have
trouble accessing systems *after* they have changed their CalNet ID
because we know that some campus departments tie the CalNet ID to user
accounts which may be disrupted when the CalNet ID changes. The CalNet
team has done its best to work with campus departments in advance of the
CalNet ID changes to prevent access problems that might result. If, in
fact, a person is unable to access a system after they change his/her
ID, it seems reasonable that the local IT staff would be the best place
to start to identify and resolve access issues. But again, we welcome
any questions or concerns to our CalNet list, which once again is
calnet-admin_at_lists.berkeley.edu.
