[Fwd: Personalize your CalNet ID in January]

Hi all,

Folks have been saying they didn't see an all-staff message about this.
This came in on Jan 6, which does allow time for a Jan 30 deadline, but
many campuswide processes are previewed a little earlier than this warning.

Anyway, for what it's worth, this is what I got on Tue.

Michael

When you first created your CalNet account, your employee ID was set
as your CalNet ID. Approximately 85 percent of employees still
maintain their employee ID as their CalNet ID. If you're one of
these employees, you will need to create a new CalNet ID during the
month of January 2009.

You will see the link to our Change ID application beginning January
5th when you go to log in to campus applications that use our Central
Authentication Service (CAS). If you have already set a self-
selected CalNet ID, you do not need to take any further action.

We have posted certain requirements and considerations for creating
your new CalNet ID at:

https://kb.berkeley.edu/jivekb/entry.jspa?externalID=2616&categoryID=74

To reduce the exposure of your employee ID number, your new CalNet ID
cannot include your employee ID number (this requirement was approved
by the campus Identity and Access Management Steering Committee).

Please be careful when you create your new ID because it will be used
for the long term. Your CalNet ID will remain your ID even after you
leave the university and you will use it to access retirement
information from the "At Your Service Online" application. Once you set your new CalNet ID, subsequent changes will be allowed only under
special circumstances and by request (for example, a legal name
change).

If you experience any problems logging in to applications or
workstations after you change your CalNet ID, please notify IT staff
in your department.

For more information about why we are asking you to create a new
CalNet ID, please see:

https://kb.berkeley.edu/jivekb/entry.jspa?externalID=2614&categoryID=74

Enjoy creating and using your new CalNet ID!

Sincerely,

The CalNet Team
