Socrates & Arachne Shutdown - 12/19/08

Dear Socrates and Arachne Community,

Thank you to the many customers who have moved their websites from Socrates
and Arachne successfully. We appreciate the energy and effort required to
make this transition to an improved, reliable and secure environment. There
are many more to go. Please review the steps to migrate to IST's pilot
program hosted at Dreamhost at:
http://ist.berkeley.edu/services/tam/serverabatement.html or contact the TAM
at tam_at_berkeley.edu to request an IST hosted solution.

Socrates Update

IST will terminate Socrates web services on Friday, December 19, 2008 and
your website will no longer be publicly available. You may access your
files to complete your migration through January 31, 2009. To gain file
access,

log into your account using the server name: oldsocs.berkeley.edu. Your
files will not be available after this date.

Pine users will have until January 31, 2009 to finish moving their
mailboxes. If you have not completed your move, please contact the IST
Service Desk at consult_at_berkeley.edu <mailto:Socrates_consult_at_berkeley.edu>

Statistical and Math application users will have until January 31, 2009 to
migrate to another environment, and there will be further communication on
this shortly. If you have any questions, please contact Jack Burris of SSCL
at jackspace_at_berkeley.edu

If you have any questions on how to proceed, please contact
Socrates_consult_at_berkeley.edu.

Arachne Update

IST will terminate Arachne web services on Friday, December 19, 2008, with a
few noted exceptions. Unless you have an exception, your website will no
longer be publicly available as of this date. You may access your files to
complete your migration through January 31, 2009. There is no change to the
server name. Your files will not be available after this date.

NOTE: IST will be running with a skeletal staff during curtailment;
12/25/08 to 1/05/09. If you contact us during that period, we will issue
you a ticket, but your request will be returned beginning 1/5/09.
