Graham,

If you install the UCB Custom version of the software on a home system,
then SNS will get the same reporting that a system on campus provides,
even if you are not using a VPN connection. The information that we get
is not useful because we don't have a registered security contact for IP
addresses that folks use at home. The case of access via VPN is a
little different since we have the CalNet Id of the person that used the
VPN for the session. Given that the information from home systems not
using the VPN is not useful, SNS's plan is to block those systems from
reporting to the SNS Symantec management server.
