I suppose I could be accused of being biased as well, belonging to IST,
though I'm at the other end of Shattuck.

My $0.01 (as a rule my comments are not worth as much as Jay's) is that
in addition to agreeing with Jay, there is another angle to consider.
The general tendency in audit requirements today seems to be towards a
security group separate from the administrator group to receive and
review security information.

This is increasingly a big deal in the database world, and so we're
actively looking for ways to get more of our security and audit logs to
SNS. Perhaps it is different in the desktop world. But for us, SNS is
and will be a great help, since we couldn't fund our own independent
group to provide this function. (And even if we could fund it, why
would we want to?)
