Re: mixing FileMaker 7/8/9, server & client

Greg,

We have FMkr 7/8/9 clients accessing files on our FMkr Server 8.5. We
have received no indications, either internally or from any of our
departments, that there are problems accessing these files as a
result of various client versions.

Yes, FMkr 7/8/9 client will open .fp7 files. However, if a .fp7 file
contains new features that are not available in previous versions,
then those features may be unavailable to earlier client versions.
If, for instance, a .fp7 file was created in FMkr 9 with the new (to
FMKr 7) feature Tab Controls, a FMkr 7 client would not see or be
able to use those tabs.

This is less an issue of the client software being able to open the
.fp7 file, and more an issue of how the .fp7 file was developed.

Thanks,
