This Monday evening, December 3, 2007, the CalMail service team
migrated many campus mailing lists - including the Micronet mailing
list - to Mailman, a new and more capable mailing list management
package.
Mailman replaces the venerable Majordomo software that had been
used for this purpose for many years. As a result of this
transition, the way that you subscribe to, unsubscribe from, and
manage your subscription to the Micronet mailing list has changed,
hopefully for the better! Most notably, you can now manage your
subscription via the web, as well as via email.
You can find updated instructions on the Micronet website at:
http://micronet.berkeley.edu/maillist.html
If you should come to find anything that is inaccurate or unclear
in these instructions, please drop me a note, either personally or -
preferably - to the list admin role account,
micronet-list-owner_at_lists.berkeley.edu - thanks!
Finally, if you encounter any glitches when using the list in the
days ahead, please let me know as well. The CalMail team did a
superlative job of translating the old Majordomo configurations to
Mailman. However, I may have missed spotting some translation
issues, or made some errors in subsequent tweaking, so please point
these out if you spot them.

P.S. As one result of this transition, the 'micronet-posters-only'
list will be discontinued by the end of this week. Mailman uses a
different mechanism - "sender filters" - to allow you to post (only)
to the Micronet list from multiple addresses you may sometimes happen
to use, while continuing to receive mail at just one address. If you
were formerly able to send email to the Micronet list from addresses
other than your subscribed address, this should continue to work.

Messages you send to this mailing list are public and world-viewable,
and the list's archives can be browsed and searched on the Internet.
This means these messages can be viewed by (among others) your bosses,
prospective employers, and people who have known you in the past.
