This is occasionally an issue with Symantec -- sometimes it can identify
an infected email and selectively remove it, other times the entire file
containing the email (usually corresponding to a mailbox) is
quarantined. To get back your inbox:
1) Disable auto-protect in Symantec Anti-virus (I would recommend doing
this offline). You can right-click on the Symantec system try icon to do
this.
2) Open Symantec Anti-virus and retrieve your inbox from quarantine
3) Find the infected email and delete it, taking care not to execute the
payload and making sure to empty all deleted items completely
4) Re-enable your auto-protect
If you're not sure exactly which email is giving you the issue it might
take a few iterations before you get your mailbox totally clean
