The web as we know it was born in this month, 13 years ago

Today in web history ... thirteen years ago, on December 6, 1993:

Roy Fielding proposed what may have been the first web "spider" or
"robot." Although his purpose was to create a basic link-checking
tool, this laid the groundwork for today's search engines like Google:

Also in web history, on December 4, 1993:

Rob McCool wrote the first draft of the CGI specification, a key
step that made it possible for web pages to be dynamic and
interactive:

And finally, on December 12, 1993 - just after the momentous events above:

Rob McCool announced the release of NCSA httpd, which later became
Apache, the webserver that today powers over half of the world's
websites:

And to think that this activity all took place between Thanksgiving
and Christmas! :-)

P.S. Roy Fielding proposed his web robot as a graduate class project,
while Rob McCool was an *undergraduate* when he made his
contributions to the Web.
