Has anyone run into this problem?
Every now and then we get a Windows XP SP2 computer joined to the campus AD
domain that loses the BERKELEY.EDU option in the "log on to" drop-down list
at the login screen. When we first join the computer to the campus domain,
we see BERKELEY.EDU as an option and it works fine. Randomly, the same
machine that had it yesterday no longer has it showing up anymore when it
was restarted today. We can still logon and everything works as normal by
appending the @BERKELEY.EDU after the calnet ID. The other options that are
normally listed still show up in the list such as Campus or UC. We've tried
removing it from the domain, adding it back in, and then force an update of
the group policies (with restarts between each step) but to no luck. Not
sure if this is a factor, but the computer was restarted after it installed
the Microsoft updates from yesterday. Other machines continue to show
BERKELEY.EDU after the updates were installed so I'm thinking the problem
lies more with this particular machine. We've had this happen randomly to
other machines in the past without the option ever reappearing again after
weeks of waiting to see if it would.
Not sure what the problem could be, but does anyone have any ideas? Or
possibly a fix? Thanks!
