I received the phishing attempts. They were sent to a list that I'm on.
I also received a legitimate message from CalState9 saying "!!!Ignore the
fake messages!!!" How are novices supposed to know to believe that the
email actually from CalState9 is legit? Especially when the fake ones are
imploring you to deal with a security threat....
I was also surprised that they were being targeted, but I can imagine that
there would be a decent return: CalState9 people probably aren't
expecting messages claiming to be from CalState9 to be fake, so maybe they
get a slightly higher buy-in percentage. Plus, it only takes one or two
people to bite to make it worth somebody's time. 10 or 20 hours to set up
the networks and such, maybe you get 5 people for $1000 each....
