RE: Problem with new Dell

Hi Michael,

Can you change the boot order in the BIOS to either change USB boot devices
to disabled, or place it at the bottom of the boot order list?

I don't have a 9100 Dimension, so I don't know where this may be in that
model's BIOS.

I know this sounds crazy, but two times I've had brand new Dells do all
kinds of crazy things, because either a processor or RAM had come loose
during shipping.

I've had one machine state that it was running at 5GHz, with 200MB of RAM.
If I reseated either the RAM and/or the processor, the problems were fixed.

I've also had one Dell ship with a bad motherboard and processor, so that
may also be happening to you.

Good luck.

Subject: [Micronet] Problem with new Dell

Hi all:

Dimension 9100 just arrived. User reports this problem:

1. If I have anything plugged into USB (e.g, memory stick, backup drive,
laser mouse), the system will not boot. It gets hung up on opening screen
which says to press Ctrl I to enter configuration (but doesn't even respond
to this). The system works fine if I remove the peripheral. Also, these same
peripherals work fine if I plug them in after booting but then I have to
remove each time.

even if just one device (the memory stick, which doesn't require any user
installed driver) is plugged, the computer hangs on startup - after the
brief display of the "enter Ctrl+I" prompt.

Any suggestions before we call Dell?

thanks Michael
