Hi, Micronetters

Finally, upon continued investigation and troubleshooting I feel I
have found the issue.

Apparently when the MS Installer 3.1 v2 was installed the ZoneAlarm
Anti-virus e-mail scanning option didn't like it. I have since
re-installed the MS Installer 3.1v2 (note this is v2 not v1) and
turned off the e-mail scanning and I also, just for additional
measures, turned off the firewall after unplugging my network connection.

Currently all is working well...crossed fingers here....

Thanks,

Charles

Good Morning, Micronetters

Just a quick notice of caution for windows users. Apparently Microsoft
has changed their update system to require the user have Windows
Installer 3.1 on their machine in order to perform updates. I am not
sure but when I ran the update I believe the Microsoft spyware program
was loaded in conjunction with the installer. I may have missed it or
missed un-selecting it during the installation process.

Anyway, with both installed my Security software (ZoneAlarm Security
Suite - paid) quit working as well as my browser and other connections
(i.e. TN3270, Oracle, etc). I un-installed the 3.1 installer as well as
ZoneAlarm Security Suite. I missed seeing the spyware stuff. I
re-installed ZoneAlarm with out updating and the system was still dead.

Finally, I found the spyware program installed by Microsoft and removed
it. Installed ZoneAlarm again with out updates and the system came back
(for the moment anyway). I then updated the ZoneAlarm Security Suite and
all is still functioning.

As of this moment I am not sure if it was just the Microsoft spyware
program or a combination of it and the installer 3.1 but felt everyone
should be informed and to be cautious when updating to Installer 3.1
(i.e. make sure you do not install the spyware program, etc.) just in
case it kills you system. I still have not re-installed the Installer
3.1 to see if it kills my system or not but if anyone out there has and
runs ZoneAlarm then let me know.

Anyway, be cautious in regards to the installer and especially the
spyware program in case I am correct that MS installed it in conjunction
with the Installer program.

Thanks,

Charles
