RE: Weird Shortcut Icon behavior

Hello Gene,

Wow! Good old VPN. That sounds like an interesting possibility. What would
Windows use to guess a mapping? And what's the correct answer? Should we let
people know what our mapped drives are -- S, W, Etc. -- and let them know
that's the answer they need to give if asked? The real issue, is how can we
prevent this from happening? Sounds like a training issue.

Thanks,

Bond

Bond.

Can you confirm weather or not these users are required to use VPN. The
reason for this questions is that there are many folks out there who forget
to logon to VPN before logging in to Windows. Without VPN, Windows is unable
to re-establish a mapped drive connection and trying to fix a broken link by
either guessing or asking user. Chances are users have no idea how to fix
this and respond with the wrong answer (Just a guess).

Hello all,

I think I posted this awhile ago, but I don't remember seeing any responses.
I'll try again. We have been experiencing some strange behavior with one
particular shortcut icon property/path. This icon maps to an S drive that
contains an application that we use. On several occasions now, the users
have called to say that they can no longer connect to the application. When
we look at the icon, the path as been altered. Instead of pointing to
s:\blah it points to s:\symantec\blah or, today, to s:\blah\excel.

How is it that the icon path can be changed without specifically typing in a
path or creating a shortcut by browsing to the destination. Any clues
greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bond
