This worked...Uninstalling Norton AntiVirus

The NoNav utility did the trick. We used it in Safe Mode with Command
Prompt and it cleaned out the remnants of the old Symantec program. After
that we installed the new version with no problem.
Thanks to all who weighed in to assist with this problem, and especially
the prompt reply from Symantec.
