I have a raid box which has a network connection so you can connect to
it via a web browser to configure it. In addition to its built in web
server it has has a built in ftp server so you can upload new
firmware.
Before we moved to the new data center I had connected to it with a
web browser and checked its configuration and initialized the disks.
I didn't start using it until after the move; now I can't bring up its
web page or get any sign of life from it. It's connected to a Sun
Ultra 5 and in use via scsi (not the same machine it's networked to
for configuration).
The possiblities of what I think might be wrong are, 1) network config
on the machine it's network connected to (via a crossover cable), 2)
the crossover cable, 3) the network adapter on the machine it's
connected to (a sun solaris box), 4) the raid box, hardware or
software.
If I assume that the sun box is ok, software and hardware, I'd like to
be able to test or see if the raid box is alive in any way on the
network. I installed tcpdump on the sun box and started it listening
on the network adapter the raid box is connected to (dmfe1) but I
didn't see anything from it. I did see stuff from the sun, arp
requests, for example. I also started routed on the sun and saw its
stuff go out, but nothing back.
It's possible I changed the raid box's ip address but I remember
thinking the first time I had it up to not change it because I'd
forget it. So I don't think I did but I may have.
Does anyone know of anyway I can send out something from the sun that
might make this box respond? Its networking os is likely to be very
simple so I'm guessing it would need to be some low level tcp kind of
thing; something icmp-like. But I don't know anything about
networking stuff.
Any suggestions gratefully welcomed!
