Are you referring to Thunderbird when you say "using a browser for
e-mail"? Thunderbird *is* an email client, just like Eudora. It's not a
web browser--the web browser counterpart is "Mozilla Firebird." And
regarding the issue of read vs unread mail, I have the exact same issue
and with IMAP (haven't used POP in years, so I don't really know),
Thunderbird works just fine. The window format is different, as there
is one rooted window that has all of your folders in it. New vs simply
unread messages are differentiated by a different appearance of the mail
icon for each message and you can temporarily filter on that status.
You may still decide that the Eudora UI is nicer, but don't dismiss
Thunderbird based on the impression that it's a web browser.
I agree with your point about webmail in general, though.
