It'll depend heavily on the number of messages being sent each week, what
kind of correspondence you'll have and what interface you're using to
manage majordomo. I'm currently managing a 1,700 user majordomo list that
has monthly or bi-monthly newsletters through UCLink web interface.
Setting it up wasn't pretty but managing it is easy. I have all the email
address in alphabetical order so if any of them bounce, I can find it
and remove it easily.
Learning how to approve messages or send pre-approved messages proved to
be much more frustrating than expected. Even though I had previous
majordomo experience, I found that the UCLink implementation didn't work
as documented (or as expected). This hopefully changes when CalMail is
implemented.
Short answer: <1 hour per mailing after initial setup.
If you want to know about a high-volume, high-user list, you should
contact the owner of mcb-students. However, I believe that it is
unmoderated.
