Hi Craig,
I believe that campus should shutdown those ports, but I don't think
that it is wise to do this weekend it as a knee jerk reaction to the
panic.
A logical plan needs to be established.
1.) Campus wide announcement regarding the port blocking.
2.) Web pages presenting alternative methods of connectivity
3.) Day and time - when the blocking will occur.
Without prior warning and alternative methods presented, the loss of
connectivity might consequently be more costly to the University than
the dangers of what the network hacks might do.
This is one of those risk vs. cost ratios that I'm glad that I don't
have to calculate.
