I wonder if when these files got put onto a pc floppy, their
filenames got truncated to 8.3 format. Maybe these were the non-8.3
names (non pc), and not actually filetype extensions, in which case
you may be dealing with mac files:

cact-n-a.genus
cact-n-a.number
cact-n-a.quantity (or .quality)

coryph.number
coryph.quantity (or .quality)
coryph.species

opuntia.bes (no idea)
opuntia.number
opuntia.species

agavemex.name
agavemex.number
agavemex.quantity (or .quality)

If it's a mac... have you tried filemaker? Or even simple word or excel?
