I agree with Greg M. I'm still a PacBell DSL user and about once every week
or so, I get assigned an address that doesn't forward resolve (and sometimes
doesn't reverse resolve either)! This affects my ability to print via my
machine work machine, where I use TCP Wrappers which also does reverse/forward
lookup checking.

When this first started happening, about two years ago, I sent a note to
PacBell tech support. Their response was brief and could be paraphrased
as 'we don't understand what you're talking about'. I had complained
that I couldn't use certain services because their DNS did not contain a
forward entry for the DHCP address they had assigned me. Since the problem
would clear up when I disconnected and reconnected (getting a new IP address),
and doesn't occur very often anyway, I have never followed up with them on
this. (Now, when I first log in to my campus Unix shell account from home,
I run a short script that does essentially what the aforementioned uclink web
page does, to warn me when this problem is occurring, so that I can try to
obtain a new IP address before I bring up all my other applications).

I can sympathize with Greg's frustration, even though I don't encounter the
problem very often.

Mike
