What you describe sounds as if your screen is NOT scratched; rather the oils
from your finger tips adhere to the edges the keys resulting in the transfer
of oils to your screen when you close your powerbook. The end result is
hash-like marks on your beautiful screen. This is a problem not specific to
PowerBooks but to many brands of notebooks.

Greg points out a good solution-- there are pads designed to cover the
keyboard-- either in leather or cloth. A less expensive solution is a
screen cleaner with screen cleaning cloths. Clean your screen with an
approved cleaner (like Klear Screen-- the only cleaner Apple and many other
manufacturers approve and recommend to clean the screens). Then cut a
special cloth (lint free- used to polish hard disk platters) to fit your
keyboard. The cloth will absorb the oils and keep your screen clean.

A side benefit to using Klear Screen is that it is an antistatic cleaner--
meaning that once you clean your screen it actually stays cleaner by
"repelling dust." Another benefit is that the more you use it the more
resistant to oils, dirt, dust and grime in the future.

TSW carries various KlearScreen products at academic prices-- to find,
either type in "Klear Screen" in TSWs e-Store or look under:
